Illinois: State Increases HIV/AIDS Funding

May 11, 2006

The Illinois General Assembly has approved $5.5 million more in HIV/AIDS funding for fiscal year 2007, which starts July 1. The state's AIDS Drug Assistance Program received an additional $2.5 million from last fiscal year. The budget also provides $4.9 million for methamphetamine prevention and treatment, and $3 million for the new African American AIDS Response Fund. "The AIDS Foundation of Chicago applauds Gov. Blagojevich and the members of the General Assembly for taking bold steps in the fight against AIDS," agency Director Mark Ishaug said in a statement.
