India: Ranbaxy Says Four More HIV Drugs Make It to WHO's Safe List

On Wednesday, Indian pharmaceutical manufacturer Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. announced that four more of its generic drugs have been approved by the World Health Organization for treatment of HIV/AIDS in developing countries. The drugs approved are two variants of efavirenz and two variants of stavudine, each widely used in HIV treatment regimens in the developing world. Ranbaxy now has 12 of its drugs on the WHO list of safe HIV/AIDS medicines. The company's generic drugs are about 8-10 times cheaper than patented drugs.
