German Soccer Star to Raise Awareness for UNAIDS Agency

Soccer star Michael Ballack, captain of the German national team at the World Cup, has become a special representative of UNAIDS, focusing on HIV/AIDS prevention and support for young people. "I will help save lives by engaging the sports world to take action against AIDS," the 29-year-old said in a statement. "Through sport, young people can become more self-confident and protect themselves from HIV." Ballack was named German player of the year in 2002, 2003, and 2005.
