U.S. News "The Age of AIDS," Tuesday and Wednesday on PBS' "Frontline"May 26, 2006 PBS' "Frontline" series is airing "The Age of AIDS," a documentary that examines how HIV has infected 70 million people, of whom 30 million have died, since it was first diagnosed 25 years ago. Filmed in 16 countries, the documentary explores how confusion, politics and morality have shaped the response to the pandemic. The first half of the program charts how HIV spread among hemophiliacs, gays and IV drug users, how Haiti was shaken by the disease, and how activism made a difference in Thailand and Uganda. The second half focuses on the rise of AIDS in Africa, and it contrasts the different responses to the crisis in Brazil, China, India, and Russia. "The Age of AIDS" airs 9-11 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, May 30-31 (check local listings).
