International News Glaxo to Cut Prices for Some AIDS DrugsMay 31, 2006 GlaxoSmithKline PLC has announced a cut of about 30 percent in the not-for-profit price it charges developing nations for some AIDS drugs. It is also adding two antiretrovirals to the program and signing an eighth voluntary license agreement; this will permit a joint venture, comprising South Africa's Community Investment Holdings and India's Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd., to make cheaper generic copies of some GSK drugs. GSK, which, along with other AIDS drug makers, has faced criticism for not doing more to increase access to essential medicines, has pledged to bring down prices as it achieves greater economies of scale.
