International News Actress Ashley Judd on Central American Tour to Educate Youth About AIDSMay 4, 2006 On Tuesday in Coatepeque, Ashley Judd met with AIDS patients and called on Guatemalans to fight discrimination against people with HIV. Misinformation, stigma and superstition "only contribute to the spread of AIDS," she said. Judd is acting as a world ambassador with Washington-based YouthAIDS. Scheduled to join her on her mission were actress Salma Hayek and Colombian singer Juanes, who are also representatives of YouthAIDS. The three were to meet with President Oscar Berger before Judd and Hayek continue on to Honduras and Nicaragua. Government statistics report there are 8,600 AIDS patients in Guatemala, though the true count is believed to be much higher.
