New Jersey: $4.5 Million Grant to Help Bergen, Passaic Residents With AIDS

May 9, 2006

Last week, officials announced that almost $4.5 million in federal funds have been awarded to pay for AIDS patients' medical treatment in Passaic and Bergen counties. Carley Gray, a spokesperson for Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. (D-N.J.), said the money from the Ryan White CARE Act will go for emergency, health and support services. There are about 4,000 AIDS patients in the two counties, she said. New Jersey ranks fifth in the nation for the number of AIDS cases, and six of the 51 major U.S. metropolitan districts sharing the money are in the state.
