International News Germany Donates to UNICEF for AIDS Prevention Program in MyanmarMay 9, 2006 On Saturday, UNICEF announced Germany has donated $870,000 to help develop AIDS prevention programs targeting Myanmar youngsters who do not go to school. The money will help three local nongovernmental organizations teach HIV/AIDS prevention and various skills to children ages 10-17. The NGOs have targeted 20 townships that have been particularly affected by HIV and where school dropouts have few learning opportunities, UNICEF said. The HIV/AIDS prevalence rate among people ages 15-49 in Myanmar is estimated to be 1.2 percent, the agency noted.
