San Francisco Gay Group Urges Spring Testing for STDs

April 1, 2002

San Francisco health advocates are tapping into the theme of spring-cleaning to urge gay and bisexual men to get tested for STDs in April. The "Castroguys' Spring Cleaning Initiative" will be reaching out in the Castro as well as South of Market with offers such as free cups of coffee or flowers, or discounts on books to encourage men to get tested. Participating organizations include the community health collaborative Castroguys, AIDS Health Project, the Public Health Department and local merchants. Public health officials say gay and bisexual men are experiencing an "alarming" rise in STDs.
