Former Diplomat: AIDS, Not Terrorism, is Biggest Threat

AIDS outranks terrorism and the violence in the Middle East as "the single most serious issue in the world today," former UN Ambassador Richard C. Holbrooke said in a speech at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., last Thursday night. "AIDS is not just another disease, it is the worst health crisis in at least 700 years. It is attacking the social and political fabrics of countries and undermining their opportunities for advancement." Every day, he noted, 8,000 people die of AIDS.
