HIV/AIDS Support for Those Older Than 50

Project Silver Lining, a Jewish AIDS Network Initiative that aims to educate and support individuals over age 50 regarding HIV/AIDS, is the recipient of a $16,837 grant to fund the program for one year. The grant was awarded to the Jewish Family Service program by "Tuesdays Angels," a Fort Lauderdale volunteer organization founded in 1993 to give emergency assistance to needy people with AIDS. The Senior HIV/AIDS Education and Outreach effort consists of two programs: The Senior Interactive HIV/AIDS Banner Program 2002-2003, which will provide education through discussions; and the Silver Educators program, which will train participants on the facts and myths concerning AIDS. Nearly 23 percent of total HIV cases nationwide are reported in persons over age 50, according to the CDC. For more information, call the Jewish AIDS Network at 954-370-2140.
