UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan welcomed two of the world's top soccer teams to the UN and thanked them for agreeing to play an exhibition match to help fight AIDS Thursday night at Giants Stadium. Annan met separately with each team Wednesday, posed for pictures with the players, and thanked them for taking part in the "historic" exhibition. "One can just imagine a sick person, in hospital, infected with AIDS, seeing young, healthy, dynamic players at the height of their game, playing in solidarity with them -- the encouragement that gives them is quite extraordinary," he said. Part of the proceeds of the match will go to the global campaign to fight HIV/AIDS. "You are not only giving of yourself and your time but you have also decided to make a financial contribution which is extremely appreciated and will be put to good use helping these sick people," Annan said.
