The Netherlands has pledged to give Ethiopia nearly 4 million euros to help finance its fight against TB, according to a statement issued by the Dutch embassy on Thursday. The Dutch ambassador and Ethiopia's Health Minister Kebede Tadesse on Wednesday signed a cooperation agreement under which the Netherlands will finance the program for the Control of Leprosy and Tuberculosis (TLCP) in Ethiopia for $3.91 million euros. Around 85 percent of the funding will be used to purchase TB medicine and laboratory material, with the rest earmarked for the TLCP's logistical needs. The AIDS pandemic is blamed for an upsurge in the incidence of TB in Ethiopia, where some 91,000 cases were reported last year. The disease is growing by 10 percent annually, the statement said.
