Brattleboro, Vermont AIDS Director Taking Leave

AIDS Project of Southern Vermont Executive Director Susan Bell is planning to take six months off to continue her education. During her leave, Bell will enter the master of divinity program at Harvard University Divinity School. In February she will return to her role at the project and continue to pursue her degree part-time. The study of faith and religion, Bell said, will be tightly woven into her work with those living with HIV/AIDS, where a sensibility to end-of-life issues is key. Mark Melchior, current vice chair of the project's board, will step in for Bell during her leave. Melchior said the board strongly supported Bell's sabbatical request. Bell was one of the first paid staff on the project in 1990. She has done much in those years to establish a solid, comprehensive program for the HIV/AIDS community in southern Vermont, Melchior said.
