Pregnant Boy Pitches Abstinence

December 11, 2001

New Mexico health officials hope their message promoting abstinence reaches teens through a new media campaign showing a pregnant teenage boy standing next to a pregnant girl. The "It's Your Baby Too!" slogan was unveiled during a news conference last week. New Mexico has ranked among the top five states in teen birth rates for years. The state received nearly $2.5 million to promote abstinence programs over the last few years, Abstinence-Only Education Project Coordinator Marie Di Bianco-Eik said. That funding expires next year. About $100,000 was spent on the current campaign, which was developed by a group of teens.
