2.2 Million Ethiopians Living With HIV/AIDS in 2001

December 16, 2002

The Ethiopian Health Ministry reported on Thursday that an estimated 2.2 million people in the nation are living with HIV/AIDS, including 200,000 children. HIV prevalence had decreased from 7.3 percent the previous year to 6.6 percent. The urban rate (13.7 percent) remained considerably higher than the rural rate (3.7 percent).
