December 5, 2001

Jamaican Information Minister Colin Campbell announced Monday that the government will spend $25 million to treat HIV/AIDS patients and educate the public and health care workers about the disease. The money will be spent during the next five years. A World Bank loan will provide $15 million, and the rest will come from the government and the UN global AIDS fund. As many as 15,000 people in Jamaica, a country of 2.6 million, have HIV/AIDS, the Ministry of Health reported last week.
