San Francisco: 16th Annual AIDS Walk Set for Next Weekend

July 18, 2002

San Francisco's 16th annual AIDS Walk is this Sunday morning, July 21. Participants can register and self-pledge on the day of the event. The 10-kilometer walk will launch from Golden Gate Park's Sharon Meadow. The event is low-key and all-inclusive, with no minimum fundraising requirement for teams or individuals. Check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. and an aerobic warm-up takes place at 9:30. The walk begins at 10:30 a.m. There is a post-walk concert at the Sharon Meadow, with local and national celebrities expected to speak and perform, weather permitting. An announcement of the funds raised will be made at 2:45 p.m. The San Francisco AIDS Foundation and dozens of other Bay Area HIV/AIDS organizations are beneficiaries of this year's walk; last year's event drew 25,000 participants and raised $3.8 million. More information is available at www.aidswalk.net.
