Zimbabwe's Population Stops Growth Due to AIDS

Zimbabwe's population growth is zero due to the death rate from AIDS, local newspapers reported Monday. More than 70 percent of births do no more than replace the growing number of people lost to AIDS, Minister of Health and Child Welfare Timothy Stamps said Sunday. At a consultative meeting to identify issues for the national response to AIDS within the UN General Assembly's upcoming special session on AIDS, Stamps said, "All UNAIDS has done is to create animosity between governments and their people by giving lip service and false promises on what they intend to do for the continent."
