Gay and Lesbian Medical Association Guidelines

June 13, 2002

The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association released two sets of guidelines on health care for men who have sex with men. The documents are aimed at health care providers. Recommendations in "Creating a Safe Clinical Environment for Men Who have Sex With Men" address the patient-clinician relationship, starting with the office and waiting room environment, continuing through the patient intake forms, and ending with the patient interview. The other document, "MSM: Clinician's Guide to Incorporating Sexual Risk Assessment in Routine Visits," discusses factors that clinicians must address when tailoring prevention messages to MSM. The guidelines are available online at http://www.glma.org/medical/clinical/.
