Pharmaceutical Groups Will Not Contest Kenyan AIDS Drug Law

June 14, 2001

On Wednesday, pharmaceutical representatives said they will not contest Kenya's Industrial Property Bill. The measure, which was given unanimous approval by the Kenyan Parliament on Tuesday, will allow the government to import cheaper brand name and generic drugs. "We are not against cheap generic drugs, as long as they have to go through the same registration process and the same quality control," said Doshi Niraj of Merck.
