More Than 10 Percent of Tanzania's Labor Force HIV-Positive

In Dodoma, Tanzania, Abdalallah Kigoda, minister of state in the president's office, said Friday that more than 10 percent of the country's labor force is said to be HIV-positive. He said that at least 1.7 million Tanzanians had HIV by 2000; that 60 percent of patients with TB also have symptoms of HIV; and that HIV/AIDS has cut life expectancy in the country from 52 to 47 years.
