UNAIDS Announces Link with Coca-Cola to Fight HIV/AIDS in Africa

June 20, 2001

UNAIDS announced today that the Coca-Cola Co., the largest corporate employer in Africa, is joining the fight against AIDS on the continent. The company's vast marketing and distribution system will help spread the word on how the disease is transmitted, provide test kits, and care for infected people. "We are excited about this partnership and what it means in the fight against AIDS," said Peter Piot, executive director of UNAIDS. No dollar value was placed on the program.
