Displaced Persons Camps 'Blamed' for High HIV Infection Rates

More than 600,000 people displaced by Burundi's ongoing war have been confined in government security camps. On Monday, Dr. Joseph Wakana, director of the nation's AIDS and STD control program, said the camps have become new centers of high infection rates. At least 230,000 children were orphaned by AIDS in Burundi last year. The disease has become the nation's leading cause of death among both children and adults.
