News Briefs Miss Universe Ends Kenya Tour With New Anti-AIDS CommitmentJune 26, 2002 Russian-born Miss Universe Oxana Fedorona ended a tour of Kenya on Tuesday, saying she had a renewed zeal to continue her campaign against AIDS. Fedorona, who was in Kenya for six days, showed her commitment was deeper than just words by donating $250,000 to the country's AIDS effort from her charity fund and challenged African governments to sufficiently support the disease's lobby group. "The Kenyan government and its people have renewed my enthusiasm to fight AIDS by their brotherly spirit when dealing with matters associated with AIDS." In the course of her campaign, Fedorona took an HIV test at Nyumbani Home, Nairobi's biggest orphanage for children suffering from AIDS, and also consoled thousands of slum dwellers when she visited the Kibera slums in Nairobi, one of Africa's largest. The visit by Fedorona, a global ambassador-at-large for AIDS from the UN Global Fund, was sponsored by the New York-based Global Health Council (GHC).
