Norway to Increase AIDS Donations by $110 Million over Five Years

June 27, 2001

Norway announced on Monday that it would donate an additional $110 million to international efforts to fight HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria over the next five years, and some will go to the UN global AIDS fund. "We attach particular importance to strengthening health systems in developing countries in cooperation with the World Health Organization, and to reaching the poorest and hardest hit," said Norway's Minister of International Development Anne Kristin Sydnes. "How much will be channeled through existing mechanisms and how much through the new fund will be decided when we know more about the fund," she said.
