UN Nominates Annan for Second Term

June 27, 2001

The UN Security Council formally nominated Secretary-General Kofi Annan for a second term as leader of the United Nations, paving the way for his expected election by the 189-member General Assembly. Meeting in closed session today, the 15-member council unanimously adopted a resolution recommending Annan's candidacy.
