News Briefs France Pays for Novel HIV/AIDS TreatmentJune 4, 2002 France's National Agency for AIDS Research is spending $250,000 to test HIV/AIDS treatments suitable for the environment and economy of Vietnam. In the method, which has been applied successfully in many countries, patients are administered a combined dose of 3TC, DDI and Efavirenz every day. Starting late this year, 100 patients at two facilities will undergo the therapy for 18 months. The French agency has been active in Vietnam's fight against AIDS since 1996. More than 47,000 Vietnamese are infected with HIV, and some 4,000 have died of AIDS.
