Food and Drug Administration Says ThinPrep Pap Test also OK to Detect Two Sexually Spread Diseases

June 7, 2002

Women may start getting checked for cervical cancer and common STDs at the same time now that the government has ruled the ThinPrep Pap test also can screen for chlamydia and gonorrhea. The new approvals mean with one swab into the vagina, doctors have a way to test for four different diseases, said FDA reviewer Kathleen Whitaker.
