Several measures in Congress are working to fight AIDS and other diseases internationally. A bill to help poor African countries purchase AIDS medications has been drafted by Rep. Henry Hyde (R-Ill.). In addition, Sens. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and John Kerry (D-Mass.) are planning a measure that would give tax credits to drug companies to promote development of new tuberculosis,
malaria, and AIDS vaccines. Another bill that would increase funding for prevention campaigns is also under consideration.
