Drug Majors Agree on Price Cuts for AIDS Drugs in Burkina FasoMay 10, 2001 Burkina Faso's Health Minister Pierre Tapsoba said on Wednesday that an agreement had been reached between Bristol Myers Squibb, GlaxoSmithkline and Merck Sharp and Dome to lower the price of antiretroviral drugs by up to 96 percent. Tapsoba stressed that despite the drop in price, the average person in the country would still not be able to afford the drugs. Burkina Faso follows the Ivory Coast as the West African country most affected by HIV/AIDS with 7.7 percent of the population HIV-positive.
