Massachusetts: House Maintains Education Funding During Budget Debate

The Massachusetts House voted last Monday to maintain state spending on local schools at the same level as the current fiscal year. Some lawmakers had feared education spending might have to be cut because of the state's ongoing budget crunch. The House boosted funding for the Department of Social Services, but cut money for disease prevention by about $5 million and AIDS funding by about $2.5 million.Adapted from:
