News Briefs Teen Pregnancies Down in Michigan, Survey FindsMay 23, 2002 The birth rate for Michigan teenagers dropped 39 percent between 1990 and 1999, according to a report being released today. Published annually, the Kids Count study reported teen births in the state dropped from 36 of every 1,000 teens to 22 in 1999. The national rate is 29 per 1,000. Kids Count coordinator, William O'Hare at the Annie E. Casey Foundation in Baltimore, said, "There are more responsible attitudes amongst teenagers about marriage and childbearing."
