AIDS Activists in Kenya Launch Campaign for Cheap Drugs BillMay 29, 2001 AIDS activists in Kenya launched a petition campaign yesterday to gather support for legislation set for parliamentary debate next week and aimed at making AIDS treatment cheaper. The Industrial Property Bill would regulate patent protection for drugs to ensure Kenyans have access to affordable treatment, notably antiretroviral medicines to prolong the lives of AIDS patients. Campaigners will collect signatures for a petition titled "Put Life Before Profit: Make HIV/AIDS Medicines Affordable for All," sponsored by the Kenya Coalition on Access to Essential Medicines.
