Official Warns of Political Trial Against Bulgarians in LibyaMay 8, 2001 Bulgaria's foreign minister told Arab ambassadors yesterday that Libya is preparing a political trial against six Bulgarians accused of deliberately infecting children with HIV. The six -- five nurses and one doctor -- have been under arrest since February 1999. A Libyan prosecutor wants the death penalty for the accused, who were working at a hospital in Benghazi when they allegedly infected 393 children with HIV. The trial, which has been adjourned 11 times, is set to begin May 13. Associated Press 05.07.01 This article was provided by U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
