A Share for Sept. 11

November 12, 2001

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has begun its annual six-week fund-raising effort, during which actors ask audiences for donations at curtain calls, and theater memorabilia is sold for the charity. The Gypsy of the Year competition, when theater companies determine which show raised the most money, takes place Dec. 3 and 4. Last year's effort raised $2 million. This year, 10 percent of the money raised will go to the Twin Towers Fund and the American Red Cross. The AIDS charity has already donated $50,000 to the Twin Towers Fund in memory of the 9th Battalion firefighters who lost their lives Sept. 11.
