Georgia: Church to Host AIDS Seminar

November 20, 2002

Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Warner Robins, Ga., is hosting a seminar Saturday, Nov. 23, to educate attendees about HIV/AIDS. "Our focus is to educate the public on statistics and keep them informed of new strategies against the disease," said church Deacon Jerome Stephens. "It is vital, especially for the African-American community, to come out and get all the information about the disease as possible," he said. "We will help those people who have a fear about being tested and finding out." Regional records show that more than 1,009 AIDS cases have been reported in the Middle Georgia region since 1989. It is a long-term goal of the church to offer training to members and equip the congregation to assist and house those affected by AIDS, Stephens said.
