One Percent of Pregnant Women in Delhi HIV PositiveNovember 2, 2001 One percent of all the pregnant women in India's capital are HIV-positive, according to the Indian Academy of Pediatrics. It is feared that up to 30 percent of children born to these women will get infected with the virus. Due to the urgency of the situation, the academy organized a two-day National Conference on Pediatrics HIV/AIDS beginning Saturday. Representatives of the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the National AIDS Control Organization and UNAIDS will attend the conference, along with about 300 doctors from India and abroad.
