General Assembly Tentatively Reschedules Children's Summit for MayOctober 31, 2001 The UN Children's Summit, which was postponed because of the terror attacks on the United States, has been tentatively rescheduled for May, UN officials said Tuesday. All regional groups in the General Assembly have agreed to hold the summit May 8-10. More than 75 world leaders, thousands of delegates and hundreds of children had been scheduled to attend the Sept. 19-21 summit. The first World Summit for Children was held in 1990, and delegates at the upcoming summit will assess the successes and failures of the last decade and adopt a new plan to tackle tragedies such as AIDS orphans, child soldiers and trafficking in children.
