Patients and Families Find On-Line Support
As much as we try to be a good listener and helpful counselor for people facing the difficulties of terminal illness and death, sometimes it seems only another who has gone through, or is going through the same agonies can really understand.
Knowing this, we asked, "Wouldn't it be wonderful if our friends, clients and families could talk confidentially to each other?" And the answer we came to is, "They can." We set up a special email address, firstname.lastname@example.org for anyone who wants to share a story, ask a question, or send advice to others who have considered death and examined various end-of-life options. This is a place to connect with people who have also turned to Compassion in Dying in time of need and those who understand the importance of a "death with dignity."
To send a message or comment, simply address it to: email@example.com. We will receive it at the Compassion in Dying Federation office. We will remove the identifying information in the header and forward it to those on our email list who have indicated they want to receive these messages. Any response will be distributed the same way. In this way, a confidential on-line support group can develop and grow. If correspondence develops between several people and they want to communicate directly, we will share the email addresses only if permission is granted.
