Andrew T. Pavia, M.D. is Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine, and Director for Clinical Research for the University Health Sciences AIDS Center.

Dr. Pavia is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. In addition to caring for people with HIV, he is involved in research on the development of new agents and new strategies for treating HIV. His other research interests include HIV in pregnant women and children, and the epidemiology of foodborne diseases.

He receives support for research from Abbott, Bristol Myers Squibb, Gilead Sciences and Roche.

Dr. Pavia received his M.D. at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, then completed a residency in Internal Medicine and served as chief resident at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. He was an officer in the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, and completed a residency in Preventive Medicine, also at the CDC. He completed his Infectious Diseases training at the University of Utah. In 1989 he helped to found the AIDS clinic at the University of Utah.
