The Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) is an organization of physicians, scientists, and other health care professionals dedicated to the promotion and recognition of excellence in research, patient care, public health, disease prevention, and education in the field of infectious diseases.

IDSA's 38th annual meeting was held September 7-10, 2000 at the Ernest N. Moral Convention Center in New Orleans. This meeting featured invited scientific presentations of twenty-four symposia, four plenary sessions, twenty-two meet-the-professor sessions (over a period of three days), five interactive case-based sessions, original slide and poster presentations of new data, and late breakers which consist of important preliminary research findings.
