Abhimanyu Garg, M.D.
Dr. Garg graduated from secondary school in New Delhi, India, placing in second position above more than 60,000 of his peers at the Central Board of Secondary Education. He obtained his undergraduate and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. In 1983 he moved to the University of Alabama at Birmingham for a fellowship in endocrinology, which he followed up with another research fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. In 1990 he became the chief of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center's Diabetes Clinic, a capacity he continues to serve in, even as the Associate Program Director of the General Clinical Research Center at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Currently, Dr. Garg is a member of half a dozen professional societies: The American Diabetes Association, American Federation of Medical Research, American Heart Association, Texas Medical Association, Dallas County Medical Society and AIIMSONIANS of America.
Dr. Garg has been widely published, in journals like New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Journal of Clinical Endocrionology and Metabolism, Diabetes, and the Journal of the American Medical Association. In 1991 he was the keynote speaker at the 8th Japan Diabetes-Lipid Research Seminar.
