CRIA's Board and staff are extremely sad to report on the recent death from AIDS of our Treasurer, George N. Stathakis. George joined CRIA's Board of Directors in 1995, and was a forceful advocate of our clinical research and treatment education mission. He had been a Senior Vice President at both L. F. Rothschild & Co. and Tucker Anthony, Inc. and was instrumental in the packaging and sales of fixed income securities at both firms.
George was a unique and extremely caring individual, and his thoughtful direction was instrumental to the rapid improvement in our agency's fiscal stability during his tenure on the Board. Today, as a result of his contributions, CRIA is in a better position to provide critically needed services to people living with AIDS. George was only 39 when he died. His fight against AIDS was a model of quiet courage and an inspiration to everyone at CRIA to rededicate ourselves to discovering more effective treatments. Both his unflinching support of CRIA's research and treatment education efforts and his warm, kind spirit will be deeply missed.
