Journal of the American Medical Association Editors Call for Papers for Special HIV/AIDS Issue

November 26, 2003

Dr. Jeanette Smith, contributing editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association, and Dr. Richard Glass, deputy editor of JAMA, in the Nov. 26 issue of JAMA issued a call for papers to be published in the journal's July 2004 issue, which will be dedicated entirely to HIV/AIDS research. The publication of the issue will coincide with the XV International AIDS Conference in Bangkok, Thailand. Smith and Glass requested papers on original discoveries, as well as other scholarly articles, including systematic reviews, special communications, commentaries and papers focusing on the economic, ethical and social policy implications of HIV-related research. "The progress gained in HIV disease has been remarkable, but many continue to suffer the cruel consequences of this disease," Smith and Glass write, concluding, "As we anticipate advances resulting from application of knowledge and imagination (and the necessary resources), we might remember that 'Concern for man himself and his fate must always form the chief interest of all tehcnical endeavors. ... Never forget this in the midst of your diagrams and equations'" (Smith/Glass, Journal of the American Medical Association, 11/26).
