October 28, 2003

Dr. Paul Volberding, vice chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California-San Francisco and chief of medical service at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center, has assumed the role of chair of the board of directors of the HIV Medicine Association. In his role as chair of HIVMA, which is the "organizational home" of HIV/AIDS health professionals, Volberding plans to expand the group's public policy and advocacy work and foster relationships between HIVMA and other HIV organizations, according to an HIVMA release. Volberding has served as vice chair/chair-elect since 2001. Dr. Daniel Kuritzkes, director of AIDS research and head of the Section of Retroviral Therapeutics at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, will serve as vice chair and will take over the position of chair in 2005 (HIVMA release, 10/24).
