Reports Examine HIV/AIDS Cases Related to Assault, Sexual Violence; HIV/AIDS News Service Available in French

  • "The Right to Survive: Sexual Violence, Women and HIV/AIDS," Rights and Democracy: The report calls on the right to reparations of victims of sexual violence during armed conflict, including access to treatment for people who have contracted HIV through rape. It focuses on women in Rwanda, Burundi, Sierra Leone and the Democratic Republic of Congo who contracted HIV after being raped (Rights and Democracy release, 12/7).

  • International Family Planning Perspectives, December 2004: This issue of the journal examines the health consequences of gender-based violence and provides evidence that women who are physically assaulted are more likely than other women to contract HIV, have unintended pregnancies, report symptoms of reproductive tract infections and have multiple partners and less likely to use condoms and other contraceptives (AGI release, 12/10).

  • "PlusNews French Service," IRIN/PlusNews: The free e-mail and Web-based HIV/AIDS information service for sub-Saharan Africa is now available in French and English. Services include a news service, weekly newsletter, country profiles and radio news briefs (IRIN/PlusNews release, 12/14).
