South Africa: Levi's Uses Music to Rage Against HIV/AIDSNovember 2, 2006 On Saturday, Levi Strauss-South Africa hosted Rage for the Revolution, an all-day concert for its Red for Life program to raise HIV/AIDS awareness among South African youths. Held on the Newtown Precinct Lawn and Bassline, the event was co-hosted by 5FM, Metro and SABC 1. By appearing in the line-up, all the performers became music industry message-bearers, using the occasion to educate people about the disease. But first, the acts were provided facts and figures about South Africa's HIV/AIDS epidemic. How these were interpreted for the audience was left up to the performers, using their influence to inspire, educate and motivate people. The event featured more than a dozen bands on two stages. Levi's hopes the message is clear: Take control of your life, be aware of the facts, play safe and get tested.
