TLC Members Turn Attention to AIDS Prevention
June 10, 2003 Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas of TLC
are launching "Dialogues: Education and Treatment for a Well-Planned Future," an HIV/AIDS education effort. As paid
spokespersons for the initiative, Watkins and Thomas have already
done various TV network interviews and plan to appear in a public
service announcement next year. A decade ago, Watkins and Thomas,
along with late TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, sported condoms
on their clothes to encourage women to protect themselves. TLC's
1995 hit "Waterfalls" also addressed the danger of HIV. "We can't
talk enough about it," Watkins said of CDC statistics showing
that 47 percent of new HIV cases are African Americans, and 30
percent of new cases are women.
