Media Campaign to Fight HIV/AIDS Launched in Cambodia

May 5, 2004

A 25-month BBC World Service Trust mass-media campaign to fight HIV/AIDS was launched today in Cambodia. The effort will include television dramas, radio shows, TV and radio commercials, and radio phone-in programs to highlight issues on how HIV is spread as well as maternal and child health. TV and radio broadcasts will be transmitted in 21 of Cambodia's 24 provinces, reaching over 90 percent of the population, said Giselle Portenier, head of the project. "Today our aims are being written across the sky, carried on the airwaves of Cambodia's leading broadcasters," said Mam Bun Heng, secretary of state for Cambodia's Ministry of Health.
